Sneaking around − 19 July, 2008
Have you ever had snuck around on a loved one? Have you ever tried to hide where you were actually going and pretended you were going somewhere else? No? I don’t like doing it. I found myself doing it today however. I surreptitiously placed my hiking backpack outside. It was armed with a water bottle I had quietly filled. I carried a hiking jersey downstairs and changed shirts out of sight. I quietly donned my socks, picked up my hiking boots, went outside, and locked the front door behind me. Outside I laced up my hiking boots and climbed into the car. I drove to a trailhead, and took a long hike by myself.
Was I trying to fool my husband? Of course not! He doesn’t mind if I hike without him. However, my dog would be very sad if she thought I were going hiking without her. Because of her sprained ankle, she cannot go on hikes for a little while. It was surprisingly easy to slip out of the house without her realizing what my mission was.
Upon my return, reeking of sweat and bug spray, I saw some very sad brown eyes. I had to wonder whether she had figured it out. I couldn’t be sure, but I think she may have been on to me.
