The Asses at Work − 1 August, 2008
We have a couple of asses at work. They’re both female, but I wouldn’t call either of them a “piece of ass.” They live out in the pasture near my cube. They’ve got long ears. One is really shaggy like a llama. A couple of days ago I passed near their enclosure. Being familiar with horses, I knew to let them smell my hand and not to reach up towards their heads. One allowed me to rub her nose, but they mostly didn’t want to be touched.
Today I brought them some carrots. They changed their tune in a hurry. The shaggy female appears to be the dominant female. She got most of the carrots. I had to toss carrots on the ground for the other one to keep the shaggy one from getting them. After the carrots were all gone, the shaggy female let me pet her all over her head. Next time I’m bringing big fat carrots, not little expensive baby carrots!
As a point of interest, female donkeys have an elaborate apparatus enclosed in their labia to shake the pee off themselves. It’s kind of hard to explain, but the apparatus repeatedly comes in and out of the labia, opening and closing. It was a pretty impressive display. I have never seen a mare with this type of apparatus, so I don’t know whether it is unique to donkeys.
Of all the asses I have ever come across in a workplace, these are by far my favorite.

You had me going there for a while. I really thought you were talking about a couple of women you work with! I was trying to figure out what you meant by bringing them carrots and petting their heads.

Wait, so the photo didn't clue you in??

Actually, no -- not until I got to the end of the story. Really thought you were getting carried away with the metaphor there for a while.

Me?? Get carried away?? Oh, that NEVER happens! ;-)
