A Productive.. What? A “Productive” Hike? − 3 August, 2008
Yes, as so often has been the case this summer, I had a very productive hike. For my latest story, that is. I think it’s the hardest story I’ve tried to write so far. I’ve struggled with various aspects of it. But I had a lot of ideas today. I needed to have a lot of ideas because the story was at a turning point. It could have gone in any of a million directions. How does one choose from a million? OK, well, I’m obviously exaggerating. But something about walking helps the ideas to flow. I was able to settle on a direction and to follow that through to the next point at which it could go in many different directions.
Hikes like that rock. I don’t know how I’d be a writer if I didn’t hike or take walks.
