All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go − 28 February, 1990
I turned 16 this day. I woke up that morning very excited for the day. It was the day that I had been waiting for years. My DMV appointment was that morning to test for my drivers’ license. I remember doing well on the written test, but barely passed on the actual driving test. I think that the fail number was 85 and I got an 87. I drove my mom's Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme; it was an off white color with a light interior.
My dad had bought a 1979 BMW 320i for me and I was very excited that I would be driving it that night to pick up my friends and celebrate my birthday. Only problem was, the car had been in the shop for months (one of my dad's "good but slow" mechanics). I had no car. No matter, I'll just barrow mom's Olds. Nope not that either. My parents had a function to go to that night and were taking the car out.
I spent my B-day alone in the house with my new drivers license in my pocket. Worst B-day I've ever had.
