The Day I Met My Future Wife − 15 April, 2004
Tax Day. I woke up, or rather got out of bed since I couldn't sleep. I had started calling her my girlfriend before I even saw her in person. That takes faith I guess, but I just knew she was what I had been looking for my whole life so the leap wasn't that far.
I put rose petals all over my room and placed candles all around. Yes, I was thinking I was going to get lucky. I even put on my best clothes and wore cologne! :) I mailed out my taxes and went to the airport to pick her up.
I was waiting at Newark airport and my chest had this pain in it. Not sure if it was anxiousness, or nervousness, or fear that she'd have one leg or something or a glass eye. (Not saying it would have affected my feelings for her, but come on, it could happen)
We locked eyes as she appearred around the newstand, she was wearing jeans and a white shirt and a leather jacket. She came up to me and I put my arms out and kissed her, something we were both awkward about, but got it over with quickly. She was shaking intensely and smelled great. I felt like a super hero holding her because she couldn't stop looking at me with this adoration in her eyes. It turns out, she had had a crush on me since I joined the site in October and posted my before picture, and trust me, that's a crush.
We got to my place and Madden, my golden retriever, sniffed her up and down while I went to light the candles in my room. I opened the door for her and...
Several hours later we decided to go to Time Square since she had never been. We hoped on a bus and 10 minutes later were standing on 42nd Street, We took a bunch of pictures and walked around a little, then went back to my place and chilled.
She went home that Sunday and we saw each other once a month for a year. I'd fly to her, then she'd fly to me. I moved to Appleton, WI eventually and we now spend every day together because we cherish it.
I asked her to marry me on May 1, 2006 and we were getting married on March 24, 2007 but we have to postpone it because of this.
